GOP, past midnight. The last IndiGo has dumped a hundred people onto a kerb that is not Terminal 3. Someone opens Rapido. Someone else opens Ola. The pin spins. A bike accepts, then cancels. A car quotes one number, arrives with another. Or the rider shows up and you get that half-second of doubt — is this person sober? — which is a terrible thing to be negotiating with a parent and two suitcases at 2 a.m.
We are not going to invent a crash and hang it on Rapido. That would be a lie, and it would not even be the interesting fact. The interesting fact is you do not know who is coming. The app’s job is to fill the request. It is not to keep the same driver, the same car, and the same fare until Basti.

The numbers are not vibes
In a 2023 Lok Sabha reply, the government used MoRTH’s *Road Accidents in India* series: 10,080 accidents and 4,201 deaths in 2022 from drunken driving or consumption of alcohol and drugs, on all categories of roads. Uttar Pradesh recorded the highest number of road-accident deaths in the country in 2023, according to the same ministry’s annual report. Overspeeding still kills more people than drink. That does not make a stranger on a bike at 2 a.m. a clever bet.

It cannot do the 70 km as a family car
Bike taxis are built for a helmet and a backpack. Basti–GOP with bags, a child, or an elder is a sedan or MPV. We quote 70 km one-way. Uber Intercity’s public city pair is about 75 km. Plan 1.5–2.5 hours, more in fog.
It cannot keep the fare still
Surge is the product. We confirm the number on WhatsApp before the car moves. No advance. If we quoted incomplete, that is ours to fix — not a surprise at the NH plaza.

Use Rapido to cross Civil Lines for a chai. Use Ola in Lucknow when you already know the city. Do not use a spinning pin as the plan for a parent, a flight, or NH-27 in the fog. Those jobs are why a Basti desk still exists in 2026.
