Pandit Shivkumar Tiwari took fourteen people to Sangam in a Tempo Traveller for Magh Mela. The car did not go to the water. Nothing with tyres does, once the administration draws the belt.
Took a Tempo Traveller for our 14-member pilgrimage group to Prayagraj Sangam during Magh Mela. Excellent service, punctual driver, and very comfortable journey.
219 km. Quiet Tuesday: highway, boats, wet feet. Magh: do not drive into the barricade. A city app in Prayagraj will not have met you in Basti at 3 a.m.
Ordinary weeks
Five to seven hours each way is the honest window. Akshayavat and the Sangam boats can fit a long day if you leave Basti before dawn and skip shopping in Civil Lines. Elderly groups overnight. We would rather quote a night halt than a 2 a.m. return with a shivering grandmother.

Magh is a traffic plan
For Magh Mela 2026, the Chief Minister’s December 2025 review in Lucknow recorded a 44-day fair at Triveni Sangam from 3 January to 15 February 2026, with major baths on Paush Purnima, Makar Sankranti, Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami, Maghi Purnima and Mahashivratri. That window is now past; the pattern repeats every Magh. The travel rules do not expire.
Press advisories during the 2026 mela are the template we plan against: the riverfront core as a no-vehicle area; main roads toward Sangam, Civil Lines and the fort partly or fully closed without permit; Jhunsi and Naini bridges on directed lanes; heavy diversions on the Agra–Varanasi highway approaches. If your driver has never sat in that, you will watch the snan on someone else’s phone.
Group cars
Innova for a family
Six seats, bags, a thermos. Correct for parents and children. Incorrect for a fourteen-member panda party — they will split across two cars or take a Tempo and then still walk the last stretch together.
Tempo Traveller for a yatra mandal
12–16 seats is the usual Basti booking for Magh. The vehicle waits where the police belt ends. Everyone walks or takes the boat from the same point so nobody is lost in Sector 6 looking for Sector 19.
Mini bus only with a plan
26 seats look cheap per head until the bus cannot enter the road you screenshotted. We quote the mini bus when the group is truly that size and the drop is a permitted stand, not a fantasy pin on the sand.
Mauni Amavasya is not a surprise
If you insist on the main snan date, we leave Basti in the night and we do not promise a parking selfie at the water. The date is the constraint. The car is the least interesting part of that morning.

For a quiet Sangam, any week outside Magh and the Kumbh cycle is easier. For Magh, send the snan date first, then the headcount. We confirm the Prayagraj route and the duty hours, including the walk. Next Magh’s printed dates will come from the administration again — we will not pretend 3 January 2026 still applies in 2027.

- The Mela core next to Sangam is routinely a no-vehicle zone except emergency services. You leave the car at a permitted drop or camp-side stand and continue on foot or by the boats the administration allows. Build that into the day or you will miss the snan.
